Proteinish Secures €450K Grant for AI Food Production Innovation
Proteinish receives SEK 5 million grant from Vinnova to enhance AI in plant-based food production.
Swedish foodtech startup Proteinish has been awarded SEK 5 million (approximately €450K / $520K) in grant funding from Vinnova to advance AI-driven innovation in plant-based food production. Based in Stockholm, Proteinish is developing textured plant protein solutions aimed at improving the quality and scalability of alternative protein products.
The newly funded project, “Quality in Every Gram: AI-Driven Raw Material Analysis for Digital Twin-Based Food Production,” focuses on integrating artificial intelligence into the manufacturing process—specifically through digital twin technology. This approach allows producers to simulate, monitor, and optimize production in real time, significantly improving consistency and efficiency.
One of the major challenges in plant-based food production is variability in raw materials. Even small differences can affect texture, taste, and overall product quality. Proteinish aims to solve this by using AI to analyze raw materials at a granular level, creating digital twins of production processes, and optimizing output quality across batches. The goal is to deliver consistent, high-quality plant-based protein products at scale.
The funding comes through a Vinnova initiative focused on industrial applied AI and advanced digitalization, supporting projects that address real-world industrial needs. The project will run from April 2026 to March 2028, positioning Proteinish within a new wave of FoodTech startups leveraging deep tech and AI to modernize food systems.
As demand for plant-based alternatives continues to grow, manufacturers face increasing pressure to match the quality, consistency, and cost-efficiency of traditional protein sources. By combining FoodTech with AI and digital twin technology, Proteinish is addressing a critical bottleneck in scaling alternative proteins—one that could define the next generation of food production.
With this grant, Proteinish will accelerate development of its AI-driven platform while continuing to refine its textured plant protein offerings. Already recognized as a rising player in the Nordic startup ecosystem, the company is now doubling down on deep tech innovation to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving alternative protein market.
