Tony Galati, founder of MyComputerCareer, is officially retiring from his role as CEO after leading the organization since its inception in 2007. Starting with just a few students in a modest Raleigh, North Carolina campus, Galati helped grow the school into a nationwide institution with multiple physical locations and a strong online presence. His departure marks a significant leadership shift, with current President Amy Onuska set to assume the CEO role on March 25.

From Classroom Vision to National Reach

Galati began his professional journey in accounting, but an internal IT training course changed his trajectory. Inspired by the instructor's passion, he shifted to IT education and spent nearly 15 years teaching before founding MyComputerCareer. He aimed to create a practical training model for those who didn’t fit within traditional college systems. “When we opened there wasn’t really another school doing what we did,” he recalled, noting how early alternatives like CD-based training lacked effectiveness.

Initially operating from two classrooms in Raleigh, MyComputerCareer expanded gradually, eventually opening campuses in Texas, Ohio, Indiana, Nevada, and another in Charlotte, North Carolina. As the school’s footprint grew, leadership recognized the need to offer accessible education remotely, resulting in the launch of the Live Online program. Though initially skeptical, Galati saw its value, and today, about 80% of students attend online.

Leadership Transition

Incoming CEO Amy Onuska has worked alongside Galati for 17 years, taking on various leadership roles across the organization. She played a central part in launching the Cyber Warrior Program, aimed at helping veterans transition into IT careers, and was instrumental in developing the UpSkill Academy. Galati emphasized Onuska’s readiness for the role, stating, “She spearheaded many of our successful programs... and in many ways was already fulfilling the role of CEO.”

In a recent address, Onuska reflected on the journey: “Working side by side with him on this incredible journey for so many years made me a stronger leader.”

Internal Reorganization

While stepping down as CEO, Tony Galati will remain involved as chairman of the board. Dan Pryor, previously COO, will now serve as chief placement officer, focusing on student career outcomes. Additionally, B Jaye Burchfiel has been promoted to VP of People and Policy. Two new executive roles are expected to be added soon.

With leadership changes in place, MyComputerCareer prepares for its next phase under Onuska’s direction while continuing to deliver practical IT training across the U.S.
