The new model will be developed on the same platform as the current Model Y, sharing its battery, motor, and chassis. However, the configuration will follow a simplified design approach called "Depop", which focuses on minimizing complexity while retaining essential features. This design philosophy is expected to lower production costs by around 20%, allowing Tesla to offer the vehicle at a more accessible price point without significantly altering performance or core functionality. Additionally, the car is expected to be slightly smaller than the current Model Y, making it more suitable for dense urban markets.

While China is the primary target for this initiative, Tesla has indicated that the E41 could eventually be manufactured in Europe and North America as well. However, a definitive timeline for production in those regions has not been confirmed. The project reflects Tesla’s attempt to strengthen its position in China, where local EV brands like BYD have gained traction by offering competitively priced vehicles tailored to domestic demand.
