The investment aims to accelerate the company’s hydrogen separation solutions and expand its role in the growing hydrogen economy. The funding was co-led by Hy24 and SC Net Zero Ventures, with participation from new and existing investors.

H2SITE, a deep-tech startup based in Loiu, Spain, announced the successful closure of its €36 million Series B funding round. The investment aims to accelerate the company’s hydrogen separation solutions and expand its role in the growing hydrogen economy. The funding was co-led by Hy24 and SC Net Zero Ventures, with participation from new and existing investors.

Hy24, a prominent investment manager specializing in low-carbon hydrogen, supported H2SITE through its Clean Hydrogen Equipment Fund. Guillaume Lesueur, Managing Director of the fund, emphasized the company’s technological capability, stating, “H2SITE has developed an innovative and efficient purification technology that serves a wide range of markets across the hydrogen supply chain.”

Similarly, SC Net Zero Ventures, a climate tech-focused venture capital fund, highlighted H2SITE’s contribution to decarbonization. Managing Partner Natalia Ruiz described the company’s technology as “a key example” of solutions driving energy transition and addressing significant challenges in the hydrogen supply chain.

Strategic Focus and Future Goals

The Series B funding round attracted contributions from notable new investors such as MassMutual Ventures, Enagas Emprende, and Exergon, alongside returning participants from earlier stages. The raised capital will be used to industrialize and commercialize H2SITE’s proprietary technology. The company’s objectives include achieving daily production of several tons of hydrogen by 2026 and targeting markets such as ammonia cracking, natural hydrogen production in the USA, and maritime decarbonization.

H2SITE’s CEO, Andres Galnares, remarked that the consortium of investors provides strategic and financial expertise crucial for scaling production and meeting hydrogen deployment timelines. He highlighted the company’s plan to execute large-scale infrastructure projects over the next three years, with a focus on advancing hydrogen separation technologies.

Revolutionary Technology for Hydrogen Separation

Founded in 2019, H2SITE addresses challenges in hydrogen transport and purification through advanced membrane reactor technology. The company’s long-lasting double-skin inorganic membranes break down hydrogen carriers, separate hydrogen from natural gas blends, and purify it to fuel-cell-grade levels. These membranes, integrated into high-efficiency reactors and separators, recover up to 98% of hydrogen, achieving 99.97% purity.

The technology, developed at H2SITE’s advanced facility in Bizkaia, Northern Spain, is designed for scalability, with an annual production capacity of thousands of units. The membranes support the efficient processing of renewable hydrogen at low conversion costs, aligning with the global push toward decarbonization.
