Snap Inc, the parent company of Snapchat, has announced the appointment of Ajit Mohan as its new chief business officer (CBO). The move was revealed during the company’s fourth-quarter (Q4) 2024 earnings call, where CEO Evan Spiegel stated, “Ajit joined Snap over two years ago as president of APAC, where he rapidly grew our business and presence across the region.”
In his new role, Mohan will be responsible for expanding the platform’s advertising operations globally, with a key focus on enhancing its revenue-generating capabilities. He will also oversee Snap’s “revenue product and business operations,” a strategic step aimed at streamlining coordination among advertising teams and strengthening partnerships with advertisers. This decision comes at a time when Snapchat is looking to maintain its growth momentum across key markets.
Mohan initially joined Snap in 2022 as the company’s APAC President and has played a significant role in driving its growth across Asia. His career spans several high-profile roles, including serving as vice president and managing director of Meta India, where he worked for nearly four years. Before that, he was the CEO of Disney+ Hotstar, one of India’s largest streaming platforms. His leadership in both tech and media industries has made him a well-regarded figure in the sector.
An alumnus of Nanyang Technological University and the Wharton Business School, Mohan also held senior positions at Star India, where he served as executive vice president of its television division. His earlier career includes stints at consulting giants McKinsey and Arthur D Little, where he gained experience in strategy and business development.
India remains a crucial market for Snapchat, with a reported 200 million monthly active users in the country. The company has steadily increased its investments in India, expanding its teams in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru. This expansion reflects Snapchat’s goal of capturing the younger GenZ demographic (ages 13-25) through innovative offerings like augmented reality (AR) filters and interactive features tailored to local users.
Meanwhile, Snap Inc posted a 14% year-on-year (YoY) growth in revenue, reaching $1.56 billion for the quarter ending December 2024. The company’s latest move to elevate Mohan underscores its focus on building a more integrated advertising ecosystem and leveraging his extensive experience to meet its global objectives.
