Serverpod Secures €2.7 Million to Enhance Backend Solutions for Flutter Developers

Stockholm-based Serverpod, an open-source and scalable app server designed for Flutter developers, has announced the successful completion of a €2.7 million Seed funding round. The investment was led by node.vc, with additional support from Greens Ventures and PreSeed Ventures. This funding follows the company’s previous €1.7 million pre-Seed round led by PreSeed Ventures in 2024, showcasing ongoing investor confidence in the company's vision.

Serverpod, founded in 2021 by Viktor Lidholt, a former Google Flutter team developer, along with Isak Duner, a former startup founder and CTO, and Alexander Sandor, who previously served as the lead developer of Minecraft at Mojang, aims to address a significant gap in backend development for Flutter applications. The founding team, leveraging their extensive experience in technology and startups, has built a solution that integrates seamlessly within the Dart ecosystem, providing developers with the flexibility and control often lacking in alternative backend solutions.

Viktor Lidholt, CEO of Serverpod, emphasized the need for a robust backend solution tailored specifically for Flutter developers. He noted that while Flutter continues to gain traction as a preferred framework for app development, many developers struggle with backend solutions that require language switching or dependency on restrictive serverless platforms. Lidholt stated, "Serverpod was built to fill this gap—offering full control, scalability, and deep integration with Flutter, all within the Dart ecosystem."

The latest funding will support Serverpod's ambitious growth plans, including expanding its global footprint, doubling its current team, and exploring integration opportunities with frameworks and programming languages beyond Flutter. The company is also focused on enhancing its technology to provide even more comprehensive support for developers across various industries, including healthcare, finance, gaming, and entertainment.

One of the primary challenges that Serverpod aims to solve is the backend limitations within Flutter. While Flutter is widely recognized as a powerful cross-platform app development framework, it lacks native backend development capabilities.
