San Francisco-based AI startup Riffusion has launched a new web platform that allows users to generate original music for free, offering a fresh approach to music creation through artificial intelligence. With its AI model called Fuzz, the platform enables users to create music using text descriptions, audio inputs, or visual prompts, while also learning their preferences over time to deliver more personalized results. According to Seth Forsgren, Riffusion’s co-founder and CEO, the platform was developed to help people rediscover their creative potential. “We all love music, but so few of us make it. As we grow up, we’re told we don’t have enough creativity, talent, or time. But we’re all inherently creative. We all have a sound within us,” Forsgren said, emphasizing that the goal is to make music production accessible to everyone.
A track titled "Refresh Rate," created using Riffusion’s AI, illustrates how quickly and effectively music can be generated. The song, based on a text prompt from VentureBeat, highlights the model’s capability to produce relevant audio content with minimal input from users.
Fuzz: AI Designed to Personalize Music Creation
The launch of Fuzz comes at a crucial point in AI-driven music development, as major tech companies like Google, Meta, and TikTok integrate similar technologies into their own platforms. What makes Riffusion’s approach distinctive is its focus on user-centric learning, allowing Fuzz to adapt to individual preferences. Alex Pall from The Chainsmokers, who recently joined Riffusion’s advisory board, shared his positive experience: “We always have a blast playing around with Riffusion and honestly have gotten some real value out of it professionally. Music is supposed to be fun, and unlocking creativity and ideas can be a challenge.”

One of the platform’s main advantages is its accessibility. Unlike many competitors that rely on subscription-based models, Riffusion offers its AI-powered tools for free, aiming to appeal to both casual users and professional musicians. With a team of 10 artists, engineers, and researchers, the company has focused on building an interface that is easy to use and engaging for different levels of musical expertise.
Initial tests have shown promising results, with Fuzz outperforming competing models in blind evaluations involving identical prompts. This achievement builds on Riffusion’s unique method of combining image diffusion techniques with audio spectrograms, an approach that has already influenced research efforts at major tech companies.
