Ridley Scott‘s 2012 sci-fi film Prometheus, which earned $403.4 million worldwide, has climbed back into
Netflix‘s global movie charts more than a decade later.
Prometheus rises again on global streaming charts
More than 13 years after its theatrical release, Prometheus has returned to the center of the streaming conversation. Data from FlixPatrol shows the film reached No. 1 on
Netflix‘s worldwide movie chart on February 20, 2026, and it remained at No. 1 on February 21 before moving to No. 2 on February 22.
That chart movement points to a broad international rebound for the film rather than a short-lived local spike. FlixPatrol listings also show the title appearing in multiple country-level charts, including Turkey, where it ranked in the top movie list on February 21.

Box office history behind the streaming return
The renewed streaming performance comes after a strong theatrical run in 2012. Box Office Mojo lists Prometheus at $403,354,469 worldwide, including $126,477,084 domestically and $276,877,385 internationally.
That total matches the frequently cited “$403.4 million” figure and places the film among the bigger global releases of its year. Box Office Mojo‘s 2012 worldwide chart lists Prometheus with a top-20 finish for that year.
Why the film is back in focus
Directed by Ridley Scott, Prometheus was released in 2012 as part of the wider Alien franchise and was positioned as a prequel-era story with its own mythology. The film starred Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, and Logan Marshall-Green.
The film’s long-term reputation has remained divided. While it received generally positive reviews overall, it also drew criticism from parts of the audience and critics over story decisions and unresolved questions, which helped give it a mixed legacy inside the Alien fan base.
Its return to streaming prominence also arrives at a time when interest in the Alien universe remains active. For many viewers, that makes Prometheus a natural rewatch, especially because it connects directly to later franchise entries such as Alien: Covenant.
What the latest chart run means
The current
Netflix chart run does not change the film’s original critical debate, but it does show that Prometheus still has strong replay value across international markets. The film is now reaching a mix of first-time viewers and returning fans through streaming, years after its theatrical cycle ended.
For Ridley Scott, the resurgence is another sign that older franchise titles can find a second life on global platforms, especially when catalog viewing and franchise interest rise at the same time. In practical terms, Prometheus has moved from a debated theatrical release to a title with measurable long-tail performance on Netflix worldwide.
