Renault prepares to launch electric mini supercar Renault 5 Turbo 3E in 2027
Renault will introduce its first electric “mini supercar” in the first half of 2027 with the release of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, blending legacy design with modern EV performance.
Limited-run electric model to debut with 540 horsepower and 800V system
Renault has announced that it will bring back the spirit of its 1980s performance cars with the launch of the all-electric Renault 5 Turbo 3E, scheduled to hit the roads in the first half of 2027. This upcoming model, based on the original Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2, will enter the emerging category of “mini supercars” and will be produced in a limited series of 1,980 units. Each unit will be individually numbered, underlining the exclusivity of the production.
Equipped with a dual-motor, rear-wheel-drive electric powertrain, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E will deliver 540 horsepower and generate 4,800 Nm of torque. The vehicle is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3.5 seconds, with a top speed limited to 270 km/h. The car features an 800V architecture supporting 350 kW DC fast charging, allowing the 70 kWh battery to charge from 15% to 80% in just 15 minutes. Pending WLTP certification, the car is expected to offer a range of over 400 kilometers.
Markets targeted across four continents
The vehicle will be made available in key global markets including Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and Australia. It reflects Renault's intent to establish a presence in performance-focused electric segments, while also drawing upon Alpine’s expertise in electric sports car development. Engineers from Alpine, known for models like the A110 E-ternity, A290, and A390, have been directly involved in developing the new model’s dynamics and performance systems.
Visually, the car integrates iconic design elements from the original R5 Turbo, such as the aggressive hood air intakes and widened fenders, with contemporary aerodynamic updates. LED signature lighting at the front and rear presents a modern interpretation of the original. The vehicle also includes a large rear spoiler, sport diffuser, and custom 20-inch wheels designed for high grip and road stability.
Driver-focused cockpit with integrated tech features
Inside, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E is equipped with a 10.1-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.25-inch OpenR touchscreen display, which manages navigation, entertainment, and drive settings. The Google-powered “OpenR Link” system supports continuous updates and connectivity services. The cabin also includes carbon elements, premium alcantara upholstery, and six-point racing seatbelts—features tailored to track-oriented design.
The model offers four drive modes via its “MULTI-SENSE” interface: snow, normal, sport, and race, the last of which includes a drift-assist function. With a lightweight carbon body and advanced electronics, Renault positions the 5 Turbo 3E as a blend of nostalgic design and modern electric mobility.
