PayTabs Group, a leading payments infrastructure provider in the MENA region, has acquired the majority stake in PayTabs Egypt, reinforcing its operational presence in Egypt and aligning with its broader regional strategy to promote digital transformation and financial accessibility. The acquisition, announced this week, marks a significant move by the company to strengthen its foothold in one of the region’s key markets.
By securing full control of its Egyptian operations, PayTabs Group aims to provide more targeted and locally adapted payment solutions for businesses in Egypt. The acquisition also offers an opportunity for the group to scale its technology-driven services and contribute to efforts aimed at enhancing digital payments infrastructure across the country. In a statement following the announcement, Abdulaziz Al Jouf, CEO and Founder of PayTabs Group, noted that the transition “allows us to streamline our operations and further enhance the value we offer to local businesses, government initiatives, and consumers.” He added that the company remains focused on Egypt’s digital payments landscape and will continue prioritizing innovation and user needs.
While PayTabs had previously partnered with EFG Holdings in Egypt, the acquisition represents a shift toward a more autonomous operational model. With complete ownership, the company plans to advance its technology offerings and introduce expanded payment solutions that cater specifically to Egyptian merchants. These solutions are expected to support small and medium enterprises, government entities, and end-users in accessing secure, scalable, and efficient digital transaction tools.
The group’s efforts align with national initiatives aimed at building a cashless economy. PayTabs continues to collaborate with regulators, financial institutions, and stakeholders to support Egypt’s digital economy goals. The company sees this acquisition as a natural step toward realizing its long-term plans in the country and enhancing its contributions to financial inclusion.
Founded in 2014 by Saudi entrepreneur Abdulaziz Al Jouf, PayTabs offers infrastructure for B2B payments including digital invoicing, QR code-based transactions, social media payments, and point-of-sale systems. With its proprietary platforms, the company enables a broad range of commerce services across various industries. Over the past decade, PayTabs has expanded its services to sectors such as hospitality, travel, transportation, education, and government.
In recent years, the company has introduced several key innovations. In 2021, it launched PT Touch (branded MEPS FAST in Jordan), the region’s first soft POS solution, which allows smartphones to function as payment terminals. In 2022, it deployed its unified payment orchestration platform, which has been validated globally and enables large-scale enterprises and government bodies to operate their own independent payment ecosystems. The same year, PayTabs acquired social commerce platform Paymes, further integrating it into its retail offerings.
In early 2023, the company obtained payment gateway certification from Saudi Payments and was later recognized with awards including MENA’s Best Merchant Solution and Fintech Company of the Year. Most recently, in October 2024, PayTabs became the first company in the Arab World to be listed among the Top 100 Global Fintech Companies, reflecting its expanding role in the international fintech sector.
With operational bases in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and a presence in Jordan, Egypt, and other markets, PayTabs Group continues to pursue growth opportunities in the region. The recent acquisition of PayTabs Egypt signals the group’s intent to further embed itself in Egypt’s payment infrastructure and support local business ecosystems through accessible and efficient payment technologies.
