Oslo-based Tana, a tech startup creating AI-powered workspaces, has raised $14 million in a Series A funding round to further develop its AI agents and voice-directed workflows. The funding was led by Tola Capital, with significant contributions from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Northzone, Alliance VC, and firstminute capital. The company’s overall funding now stands at $25 million.

One of Tana’s co-founders, Tarjei Vassbotn, highlighted how technology has deviated from its original purpose of enhancing productivity: “The computer was supposed to be the bicycle for the mind. Instead, we got a hamster wheel resulting in loads of work about work. With AI we can solve this, but only if we approach knowledge work in a fundamentally different way.”

Founded in 2021, Tana was established by Tarjei Vassbotn, Olav Kriken, and Grim Iversen. Vassbotn, who previously worked at Google, brings extensive expertise in product development and AI, while Kriken has a strong background in business growth. Iversen, with 25 years of experience in productivity systems, played a key role in developing Google Wave.

The platform integrates a knowledge graph with object-based note-taking and customizable AI agents, enabling users to quickly convert their ideas into structured outcomes. Tana aims to eliminate unnecessary steps in the process of capturing, organizing, and using information, making workflows smoother and more efficient. Since its stealth launch, the company has gained a waitlist of more than 160,000 users, including employees from over 80% of Fortune 500 companies. Over 30,000 individuals have tested the platform, while 24,000 members actively participate in Tana’s Slack community.

Sheila Gulati, founder and managing director of Tola Capital, explained the unique value of Tana’s vision: “This team’s obsession with transforming productivity for our AI-native world sets them apart. They deeply understand that the future of work will be dynamic and personalized.”

Among Tana’s core features is Supertags, which takes inspiration from object-oriented programming. This feature allows users to transform unstructured data into well-defined outputs within seconds. With Supertags, users can automate AI-driven workflows, issue detailed instructions to AI agents, and convert raw notes or voice inputs into actionable data.

Lars Rasmussen, co-founder of Google Maps and CEO of Google Wave, was one of the first backers of Tana. Other prominent angel investors include Arash Ferdowsi, co-founder of Dropbox; Siqi Chen, founder of Runway; Olivier Pomel, co-founder of Datadog; and Holly Branson of Virgin.

Nnamdi Iregbulem, partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners, emphasized Tana’s innovative approach to AI-based productivity: “They’ve built one of the most impressive AI agents I’ve ever seen and infused it into every part of the product.”

Additionally, Andre Foeken, CTO of Nedap, underscored how Tana’s platform helps organizations adapt to the increasing need for collaboration and rapid change: “Tana is like having a superpower at work. The right information at the right time. It is also the best tool we currently have to prepare our organization for the inevitable: the increasing rate of change, the need for collaboration, and the information flow that comes with the advent of AI.”

With the new investment, Tana plans to further enhance its AI-driven features and optimize its voice-powered workflows, continuing to refine how information is processed and shared within teams.
