Nebius Brings High-Performance AI Cluster to the UK with NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra

Nebius (NASDAQ:NBIS), a Netherlands-based AI infrastructure company founded by Arkady Volozh, has announced the deployment of a large-scale GPU cluster in the United Kingdom, powered by NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra chips. With operations set to begin in Q4 2025, the project is part of a $300 million investment aimed at supporting AI development across public and private sectors.
A Strategic Addition to the UK’s AI Capabilities
The new infrastructure is expected to significantly enhance Britain’s AI compute capacity, aligning with objectives outlined in the UK government's AI Opportunities Action Plan. By establishing a domestic base for accelerated computing, Nebius seeks to enable enterprises, startups, and research institutions in the UK to access the tools required to develop and deploy complex AI systems locally.
Speaking on the company's decision, Arkady Volozh emphasized the importance of geographic proximity to where AI technologies are actively being developed and implemented. He noted that the UK represents a diverse and dynamic environment where sectors such as fintech, life sciences, and healthcare are increasingly adopting AI at scale. According to him, being physically closer to these efforts will allow Nebius to more effectively tailor its infrastructure and services to the evolving demands of local innovators.
Supporting Business, Academia, and Public Services
The UK cluster will form part of Nebius’s global network, which now spans seven AI clusters across six countries, including locations in Europe, the United States, and the Middle East. By integrating NVIDIA’s latest Blackwell Ultra platform, the company aims to provide supercomputer-level performance with hyperscale reliability.
In addition to commercial use cases, the infrastructure will support academic research and public service applications, including work within the NHS. It is designed to empower researchers with the compute capacity required for developing cutting-edge AI models, while also enabling real-time applications in healthcare and biotechnology.
Dave Salvator, director of accelerated computing products at NVIDIA, pointed out that locally deployed infrastructure can give national enterprises and startups the foundation they need to shape their own AI strategies. He indicated that this project has the potential to foster the development of more advanced reasoning models and agent-based systems within the UK.
Specialized Offerings and Local R&D
As part of its UK expansion, Nebius has also launched a sector-specific support unit based in the country. This division focuses on industries like biotech, healthcare, and life sciences, offering specialized cloud services for domain-specific AI applications. Clients include research centers such as the London Institute of Mathematical Sciences, along with financial and generative AI companies.
The company's London-based R&D team plays a central role in shaping its AI offerings. Unlike typical cloud providers, Nebius integrates its in-house research directly into its platform development. Recent efforts include creating new benchmarks for evaluating agentic large language models, with the goal of helping developers better measure the performance of evolving AI architectures.
A Growing Global Presence
With the addition of the UK site, Nebius further cements its status as one of the few independent companies operating at this scale in the AI infrastructure sector. The firm’s AI Cloud platform, built from the ground up for AI-intensive workloads, combines proprietary hardware and software in alignment with NVIDIA’s Reference Architecture. Nebius is also the first NVIDIA Cloud Partner headquartered in Europe, a designation that highlights its capability to deliver full-stack, AI-native cloud environments.
