LG Electronics (LG) introduced its innovative 'Cross Domain Controller' (xDC) platform during the CES 2025 Consumer Electronics Show, signaling a significant leap in vehicle technology. Developed in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, the platform integrates multiple advanced vehicle systems into a single, centralized controller.

According to the company’s announcement, the xDC platform leverages Qualcomm TechnologiesSnapdragon Ride Flex System-on-Chip (SoC), combining In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) within a unified system. This solution addresses the increasing need for centralized computing in modern vehicles, as technological demands on vehicles grow more complex.

The Flex SoC powers the xDC with capabilities to manage integrated ADAS, automated driving features, digital cockpits, and IVI functions seamlessly. This streamlined integration not only enhances the driving experience but also reduces component costs, offering a cost-efficient solution for automakers.

One standout feature of the xDC platform is its 'ADAS Safety View,' which provides real-time, proactive assistance to drivers. This system merges 3D and 2D graphics, offering critical insights like vehicle-to-vehicle distance, lane departure warnings, and real-time traffic updates. Drivers and passengers can access this information intuitively through the vehicle’s main display.

In addition to safety functions, the platform incorporates lifestyle-oriented features. For instance, it can provide information such as promotional offers from frequently visited stores during trips, enhancing the overall convenience of the driving experience. This holistic approach ensures the platform addresses both practical and user-friendly requirements of modern vehicles.

Speaking on the development, Eun Seok-hyun, President of LG Vehicle Solutions Company, remarked, “The xDC platform, powered by the state-of-the-art Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC, offers automakers a flexible solution that enhances the driving experience while simplifying complex systems.” He added, “Our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies sets a new benchmark for the automotive industry by redefining the driving experience.”

This partnership between LG and Qualcomm Technologies is aimed at reinforcing their leadership in the IVI and ADAS sectors. By addressing diverse automaker needs, the companies strive to develop tailored solutions that align with the evolving mobility landscape. The Flex SoC, certified with the ASIL D automotive safety integrity level, ensures reliable support for critical in-vehicle functions, underscoring the platform's adherence to global safety standards.

Designed as a high-performance, all-in-one system, the xDC platform is expected to play a pivotal role in the era of software-defined vehicles. Its ability to efficiently manage and control complex vehicle systems positions it as a key innovation in future mobility solutions. By integrating cutting-edge software and hardware, LG and Qualcomm Technologies aim to deliver competitive technologies that define the future of transportation.

The xDC platform represents a significant step forward in simplifying vehicle systems while providing advanced capabilities. With its blend of safety, performance, and user-centric features, the platform is set to make a lasting impact on the automotive industry.
