Ghent, Belgium-based LegalFly, an innovative legal AI platform, announced on Monday that it has raised over €15M in Series A funding. This round was led by Notion Capital, with participation from redalpine and Fortino Capital. The new investment is set to accelerate the company’s growth plans, which include tripling its current team by the end of the year and enhancing its feature development.
The funding will also support LegalFly's continued expansion across Europe and strengthen its partnerships with law firms and enterprises. This significant financial boost follows a €2M seed round previously led by redalpine.
LegalFly CEO Ruben Miessen emphasized the transformative potential of the company's mission, stating, "LegalFly is redefining how legal services are delivered, ensuring they are more accessible within a corporate environment while upholding the highest standards of security and efficiency." He added, "This investment enables us to scale our operations and innovate further, driving forward the digital transformation in legal services that our clients require globally."
Founded in 2023 by former Tinder product experts Ruben Miessen, Kasper Verbeeck, Dennis Montégnies, and Gregory Vekemans, LegalFly aims to democratize legal services for enterprises. The company’s AI solution automates a wide range of repetitive legal tasks, making complex legal language more understandable and accessible.
One of the standout features of LegalFly is its on-premise anonymization approach, which ensures that sensitive client data never leaves the company’s premises. This is achieved through a finely tuned model that secures the data before it interacts with large language models (LLMs). Additionally, LegalFly employs an LLM-agnostic platform, allowing it to select the best foundational models for each legal scenario, thereby enhancing both product efficacy and security.
Currently, LegalFly serves dozens of European law firms and enterprises, and has established strategic partnerships with industry giants such as Slaughter & May and Allianz. These collaborations underscore the company's growing influence and effectiveness in the legal AI space.
Notion Capital, the leading investor in this funding round, is a prominent European B2B SaaS and Cloud venture capital firm with over $1B in assets under management. The Notion team, which has founded, built, and successfully exited two SaaS businesses – Star and MessageLabs – focuses exclusively on investing in exceptional founders with the ambition to build global category leaders. Their portfolio includes well-known names such as GoCardless, Mews, Paddle, Unbabel, and YuLife. Jos White, General Partner at Notion Capital, noted, "The legal industry is a perfect fit for AI. We have been looking at investing in the market for some time and in LegalFly we are very confident that they will be one of the enduring success stories."
redalpine, another key investor, is a Swiss venture capital firm that combines financial investment, operational expertise, and a vast international network to help ambitious entrepreneurs turn their visions into reality. With over €1B in assets under management and a sector-agnostic investment strategy, redalpine has backed some of Europe’s most disruptive companies, including N26, Taxfix, Inkitt, 9fin, Carvolution, Zenjob, vivenu, and Umiami. Sebastian Becker, General Partner at redalpine, commented on LegalFly’s trajectory, stating, "LegalFly’s rapid ascent showcases their exceptional vision and execution, solidifying their product leadership in the Legal AI space."
This substantial investment and the support of these high-profile investors will enable LegalFly to continue driving digital transformation in the legal services sector, ensuring secure, AI-driven solutions that meet the evolving needs of their global client base.
