KAYTUS, a leading name in IT infrastructure solutions, has announced its latest innovation, the KR2280V3, a commercially available server adhering to the CXL 2.0 standard. The server, housed in a 2U chassis, offers versatile configuration options with front- or mid-mounted CXL 2.0 E3.S modules, supporting up to 10 front and 18 rear configurations, catering to a wide array of enterprise needs.

The KR2280V3 is designed with storage flexibility in mind, accommodating up to 45 small 2.5-inch drives, 22 large 3.5-inch drives, or 48 state-of-the-art 1TB E3.S SSD modules. In addition, it supports AIC CXL memory expansion devices with up to 24 DDR5 memory modules, allowing an impressive 75% increase in single-server memory capacity. Enhanced memory performance is achieved through 16 MRDIMM modules operating at 8,000MT/s, delivering 25% higher memory bandwidth compared to RDIMM modules. These advancements make the server an appealing choice for organizations seeking scalable and high-performance computing solutions.

Performance benchmarks highlight the KR2280V3’s ability to excel in demanding AI and data-intensive workloads. Under latency conditions of less than 100 nanoseconds, the server doubles memory capacity and bandwidth. This results in significant performance improvements, including a 76% boost in BERT model inference, a 94% increase in Redis in-memory database throughput, and a 24% enhancement in vector data processing tasks compared to traditional local memory configurations. With its advanced CXL memory expansion and modular design, the KR2280V3 addresses the increasing demands of modern computing environments.

Addressing Memory Challenges with CXL Technology

As cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing evolve, the demand for greater memory capacity and bandwidth has surged. Between 2017 and 2021, the average memory per processing core increased from 3–4GB to 8–10GB. However, while overall memory bandwidth has expanded, per-core improvements have not kept pace due to rising core counts. Simultaneously, the exponential growth in AI model parameters has outstripped advancements in memory performance, creating what experts refer to as a “memory wall.”

CXL technology aims to mitigate these challenges by enabling shared, coherent memory access between CPUs and accelerators or memory expansion devices. It supports rack-level memory decoupling, effectively boosting memory bandwidth, expanding capacity, and enabling memory pooling for shared access. This innovative approach enhances system efficiency, particularly for data-intensive workloads.

KAYTUS’s Role in CXL Deployment

With a strong commitment to innovation, KAYTUS integrates CXL technology across both Intel and AMD platforms in its V3 server series. Performance testing of the KR2280V3 demonstrates tangible benefits for memory-intensive and bandwidth-sensitive workloads. In AI applications, the combination of local and CXL memory boosts BERT inference speeds by 76%, while in-memory database tasks see a 94% increase in throughput compared to non-CXL architectures. Optimized memory tiering strategies further improve database capacity utilization by 116%. Vector data processing also benefits from this technology, achieving a 24% performance enhancement over standard memory configurations.

Introducing the CXL BOX Solution

To address the growing demand for memory resources, KAYTUS has also introduced the CXL BOX, a memory resource pooling solution designed for cloud computing and distributed storage environments. This solution integrates CXL switching units with JBOM pooling, enabling multi-host access to a fine-grained shared memory resource pool. By reducing idle memory caused by workload fluctuations, the CXL BOX optimizes resource utilization and offers a scalable solution for enterprises handling large-scale data workloads.
