HypeSound raises €1.2M to scale sound-based bioproduction tech
Italian startup HypeSound secures funding to expand R&D efforts and set up a new lab in Perugia, targeting microbial growth via acoustic technology.

HypeSound, a biotech company based in Italy, has secured €1.2 million in a pre-seed funding round to boost the development of its patented So’Sweep acoustic modulation system and establish a new laboratory in Perugia. The company plans to use the investment to advance its research in microbial bioproduction and expand its platform to include a broader range of microorganisms.
New focus includes yeasts and bacteria
Founded in 2019, HypeSound initially focused on enhancing microalgae-based bioproduction. With the new funding, the company aims to broaden its research scope to also include yeasts and bacteria. The approach is rooted in the idea that low-frequency sound waves can stimulate biological activity in environments where light-based methods fall short. The startup’s system is designed to improve yield, purity, and efficiency in industrial fermentation, which currently produces just 0.1 billion liters, far below the estimated 10 billion liters needed globally by 2030.
Backing from strategic investors
The funding round was led by Eatable Adventures and included participation from CDP Venture Capital, Nextup, Vento Ventures, Athena FH, and Ulixes Capital. Commenting on the funding, Matteo Crucito, CEO of HypeSound, said: "By integrating sound into biological processes, we can make bioproduction more efficient, sustainable, and scalable while reducing resource consumption." He noted that the capital will support both product enhancement and team expansion to increase R&D capacity.
So’Sweep offers a novel production method
The company’s core technology, So’Sweep, uses acoustic waves to accelerate microbial growth. This method is positioned as a scalable and energy-efficient alternative to light-based bioproduction, especially in industrial environments where speed and resource efficiency are critical. With a plug-and-play model, HypeSound aims to offer a solution that can integrate easily with existing infrastructure.
Recognized at the European level
Earlier this year, HypeSound was awarded the Seal of Excellence by the European Innovation Council (EIC) for its project proposal. The startup also completed the first cohort of FoodSeed, a food tech accelerator operated by CDP Venture Capital SGR. These milestones have helped establish the company’s credibility within the European biotech and agtech landscape.
Positioned for international growth
With the new investment, HypeSound intends to accelerate its entry into global markets by offering its technology to companies seeking data-driven, sustainable solutions for bioproduction. According to Stefano Molino, Head of the Accelerator Fund at CDP Venture Capital, "HypeSound is a strong example of how our acceleration programs enable emerging technological innovations to become successful entrepreneurial ventures."
The company’s expansion strategy focuses on enabling production at scale, leveraging sound to optimize fermentation processes while reducing dependency on traditional energy-intensive methods.
