Kangana Ranaut was slapped by a CISF constable at the Chandigarh airport on Thursday, just a day after she won the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. The incident, which occurred while Kangana was on her way to Delhi for a meeting, has been widely condemned by many well-known personalities. Among those who have shown support for Kangana is Hrithik Roshan, who liked a post shared by journalist Faye D'Souza on Instagram regarding the incident.
Faye D'Souza’s post, which was shared on Sunday, highlighted the importance of non-violence, stating, "With reference to the incident of MP Kangana Ranaut being slapped at an airport, violence can never be the answer. Especially not in our country that was born out of Gandhi’s ideals of non-violence. It doesn’t matter how much we disagree with views and statements made by someone, we cannot react with violence and we should not condone it. It is particularly dangerous when security personnel react violently while in uniform. Imagine, over the last ten years, if those of us who questioned power were assaulted at airports by constables who were in agreement with that power." Celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Soni Razdan, and Zoya Akhtar also liked the post, alongside Hrithik Roshan, showing solidarity with Kangana after the incident.
In a now-deleted post, Kangana Ranaut had previously criticized Bollywood for allegedly not supporting her following the slap incident. The politician-actor expressed her frustration on Saturday, claiming that those who have no problem invading someone's personal space would likewise have "no problem committing serious crimes like rapes and murders."
"Every rapist, murderer, or thief always has a strong emotional, physical, psychological, or financial reason to commit a crime, no crime ever happens without a reason, yet they are convicted and sentenced to jail. If you are aligned with the criminal's strong emotional impulse to commit a crime, violating all laws of the land," Kangana Ranaut had written.
The controversy between Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut is not new. It dates back to when Kangana referred to "silly exes" in an interview, which led to Hrithik sending her a formal notice requesting a retraction, even though he wasn’t explicitly mentioned. This sparked a public altercation, with Kangana and her lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee refuting Hrithik’s claims. The legal battle in 2016 resulted in a heated debate with multiple dimensions and no clear resolution. Kangana's remarks about her ex-boyfriends being 'silly' were perceived by the public and media as a reference to Hrithik, although she insisted that she had moved past that chapter.
For those unaware, the two stars have previously worked together in the film Krrish 3. The movie's narrative revolves around Krishna Mehra, also known as Krrish, and his scientist father Rohit Mehra, as they battle a complex plot orchestrated by the wicked geneticist Kaal and his group of mutants, led by the vicious Kaya.
In the aftermath of the airport incident, the support from the film industry, including Hrithik Roshan's subtle show of solidarity, has highlighted the broader conversation about non-violence and the responsibility of security personnel in maintaining order without resorting to aggression.
