Former
Google CEO Eric Schmidt and his wife Wendy Schmidt have purchased the historic Los Angeles mansion known as The Manor for $110 million, adding to their extensive international property portfolio.
A New Owner for Los Angeles’ Landmark Mansion
A legendary estate in Los Angeles, larger than both the Taj Mahal and the White House, has officially changed hands. Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of
Google, and his wife Wendy Schmidt have acquired the renowned mansion, previously owned by late television producer Aaron Spelling. Built in the early 1990s in the exclusive Holmby Hills neighborhood, the French chateau-style property, often referred to as The Manor or Spelling Manor, stands on five acres and spans approximately 56,500 square feet.

A Mansion with a Storied Past
The sprawling estate was originally commissioned by Aaron Spelling, known for producing television hits like “Charlie’s Angels” and “Beverly Hills, 90210.” After Spelling’s passing, the mansion became home to Petra Ecclestone, daughter of Formula One magnate Bernie Ecclestone. She sold the property in 2019 for about $120 million. According to real estate records, the house was most recently listed at $137.5 million, but after several years and a series of price reductions, the Schmidt family purchased it at a significant discount.
Schmidt Family Plans Extensive Renovations
Sources familiar with the sale say that Eric Schmidt and Wendy Schmidt intend to undertake major renovations to maximize the mansion’s energy efficiency. The couple is expected to rename the property simply as “594,” referencing its address on South Mapleton Drive, and will reportedly use the estate primarily to host events for non-profit and cultural organizations in Los Angeles.
Luxurious Amenities and Unique Features
The property boasts 14 bedrooms and 27 bathrooms, as well as a two-lane bowling alley, wine cellar, beauty salon with massage and tanning rooms, and a tennis court. One of the home’s most distinctive features is a private cinema with seating for 20, complete with a 60-foot screen that can be lowered from the ceiling. Outdoors, the mansion includes a swimming pool lined with 170,000 glass tiles and lush landscaped gardens.
One of Los Angeles’ Most Notable Real Estate Transactions
The sale of The Manor is among the most high-profile real estate deals in Los Angeles in recent years, matching the price of another major transaction involving a Bel-Air estate. The purchase highlights the continued appeal of iconic, large-scale properties among billionaire buyers and marks another addition to the Schmidt family’s diverse real estate holdings, which already include properties in London, New York City, and Washington DC.
