Chinese-Canadian artist Kelly Yu's new release “Werewolf” is backed by visuals produced entirely using generative AI technologies.

CreateAI, the technology company formerly known as TuSimple, has collaborated with singer and actress Kelly Yu to produce what it describes as the world’s first music video created entirely with generative AI tools. The project features her latest track, "Werewolf", combining AI-generated visuals with human-directed elements, including artist-drawn keyframes. The video’s artistic tone follows a fairy tale-inspired aesthetic with dark forests, castles, and mythical creatures, signaling a shift in how digital storytelling can evolve through emerging technologies.

Production time cut, costs significantly reduced

According to CreateAI, the use of generative AI helped reduce the production process by nearly half compared to traditional video workflows. The company also reported notable cost savings through AI integration. A spokesperson for the company said, “This music video is a perfect example of how generative AI can enhance human creativity and produce something unique and captivating.”

Visuals shaped by both AI and human input

While the majority of the video’s imagery is generated by AI systems, the foundation of the creative process included hand-drawn frames and human oversight. The fantasy theme blends traditional storytelling components with digital rendering, underlining how hybrid production methods can be utilized in music and entertainment. The visual direction was guided by a collaborative approach, using technology to support artistic decisions rather than replace them.

Company shifts focus from autonomous vehicles to creative AI

Once operating under the name TuSimple, the company was originally known for its work in autonomous driving technologies. In December 2024, it rebranded as CreateAI, signaling a new direction toward artificial intelligence solutions tailored for creative industries. The launch of "Werewolf" marks a strategic entry into the entertainment sector.

Aiming to support artists through technology

In a statement about the partnership, a member of the CreateAI team noted their ambition: “Our goal is to empower artists by providing them with the tools and technology needed to bring their creative visions to life.” The collaboration with Kelly Yu is part of the company's broader push to explore how AI can serve as a tool for creative professionals across various artistic domains.

The video for "Werewolf" is currently available on major platforms and is expected to prompt further discussion around the role of AI in music production and visual storytelling.
