Brave Software, known for its privacy-focused browser and search engine, has announced the integration of its search results with the Leo AI assistant. This integration allows users to access search results based on the Brave Search API directly through the Leo chatbot. The company claims that this integration will help users find more up-to-date information.
Users can utilize this new feature to fetch the latest scores, gain additional context while reading an article, and search for recent and relevant topics to create social media posts. Brave emphasizes that this integration is privacy-forward, as it does not require users to log in, nor does it store conversations with the AI chatbot on its servers. Additionally, Brave ensures that it does not use the responses to train its model and that all requests are sent to an anonymization server first to conceal user identities.
Moreover, users have the option to purchase Leo Premium for $14.99 per month, which offers higher rate limits and access to the latest models. The company states that it issues unlinkable tokens when you buy the subscription to prevent any personal identification.
In recent years, Brave has made significant strides in enhancing its AI capabilities to attract more users to its browser and search engine. Last year, the company launched AI-powered summarization for its search product, providing users with the gist of answers to their search queries. In November 2023, Brave made the Leo AI Assistant available to everyone, and in April, the company introduced an AI Answer engine to help answer users’ queries more efficiently.
While other browsers such as Edge, Opera, Arc, and SigmaOS have integrated AI to varying extents, Brave aims to leverage its unique position of owning both a browser and a search stack to refine and enhance its product offering further.
These developments reflect Brave's commitment to maintaining user privacy while simultaneously improving the user experience through technological advancements. By integrating its search results with the Leo AI assistant, Brave seeks to provide a more seamless and informative browsing experience, all while upholding its privacy-centric ethos.
